How to trigger signals on bus route in multi-slot chassis? The device in slot 6 cannot search for the trigger signal of the device in slot 7. Why is that?
The backplane of the 18-slot chassis is divided into three separate PCI buses. Each bus has its own eight PXI trigger wires, which are not connected to each other by default. For example, a PXI M series DAQ device in slot 2 can generate a trigger signal that can only be routed to the DAQ board in slot 3 to slot 6 of the first bus in the chassis. By default, bus 2 (slots 7-12) and bus 3 (slots 13-18) cannot receive trigger signals from the DAQ board in slot 2. To trigger a separate bus, you can use the PXI trigger signal routing software embedded in Measure &Automation Explorer (MAX).
1. How do I install the Trigger Routing software?
The Trigger Routing software is available as part of the PXI Platform Services installation on the Device Driver DVD or as a separate download at The multi-slot chassis bus will come with this DVD and you will be able to install Trigger Routing software as well as MAX, NI-DAQ, NI-VISA and other drivers.
2. How do I configure my computer to use PXI Trigger Routing software?
Ensure that PXI system entries are configured correctly in MAX. See also
White Paper: Configuring the PXI system in older versions of MAX to get more information on how to do this.
After configuring the system in MAX, use the left mouse button to click the chassis entrance. On the right side of the window, you should see three different tabs:
General: This item displays the chassis status, identification, and number.
Slot View: This item displays the corresponding slot of the PXI board in the chassis of the system.
Triggers: This allows you to keep the trigger for the specified bus and route the trigger on the PCI bus in the 18-slot chassis.
Unless you have a multi-slot chassis configured in MAX, you will not have the option to route triggers from one bus to another. The following image shows the Triggers TAB after the multi-slot chassis is configured correctly.
